KARACHI: The Mir Raza Ali case has taken a fresh turn after the judicial commission rejected a request from his family to summon senior police officers for personal appearance.
The commission, headed by Justice Omar Sial, issued a written order detailing the proceedings held a day earlier.
During the proceedings, the commission recorded statements from the Secretary Health, Director General Health and SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro.
Family Wanted Senior Police Officers Questioned
Mir Raza Ali’s family had requested the commission to summon Additional Inspector General, DIG Amir Farooqui and DIG Farrukh Lanjar for personal appearance and questioning.
However, the commission noted that the family had already been informed on September 17 that the senior police officers would not be summoned personally.
The commission has instead allowed the family to submit their questions for the officers in writing by September 26. The questions will then be forwarded to the respective officers for their responses.
Commission Stands By Earlier Decision
According to the written order, no new material emerged during the proceedings that warranted a change in the commission’s earlier decision.
The commission observed that changing its directions without sufficient grounds could adversely affect public confidence in the proceedings.
The family’s request for the personal appearance of the senior police officers was therefore rejected.
Commission Not Satisfied With SSP’s Handling
The commission also recorded observations regarding the performance of SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro, stating that it was not satisfied with his handling of the matter.
However, the commission appreciated the SSP for acknowledging shortcomings and responding to the questions raised during the proceedings.
The order stated that SSP Soomro provided appropriate responses to the issues raised instead of avoiding or concealing them.
The judicial commission’s proceedings in the Mir Raza Ali case are continuing, with the family’s written questions for the senior police officers expected to be submitted by September 26.
